The herbs always play an important role in the cooking process by the addition of their flavors. But in the maintenance of the health they also play an important part. If we come to know about the health benefits of the herbs we can do a modification our eating habits so that apart from having a tasty meal it become healthy also.

The herbs are mostly full of anti-oxidants. The medical research has proved that anti-oxidants are helpful in protecting us against the free radicals which are present in the air around us, to which we are continuously exposed. The free radicals are the pollutants in the environment. These are also found in processed food and when we are stressed. They also cause damage to tissues and cells which go on to cause ageing, cancer autoimmune diseases and some others. We could have whole grains, fruits, vegetables and herbs to save us from the free radicals providing enough anti oxidants. We could also eat anti-oxidant pills to protect ourselves.

Herbs having anti-aging and health benefits

Basil---- It is an herb easy to grow. It needs a minimum of 6 hours of sun and soil that drains water well. Basil possesses compounds called Beta-Caryophyllene and eugenal that alleviate symptoms like cramps, headaches, Arthritis etc. These properties are also ant-aging. It has also strong anti-bacterial properties.

Dell---- Dell can be easily grown. It is rich in phytonutrient Quercitim. It gives protection to the skin from UV rays.

Rosemary----Rosemary which has high content of anti oxidant needs lot of sun rays and moist soil to grow. It helps in creating the collagen necessary in maintaining skin tone and hence it is used in the creams. It can cure lung congestion also and can be consume in food also.

Oregano---It has high amount of anti-oxidant and antimicrobial properties and can be grown easily. It adds flavor to the food when used in cooking.

Garlic---Modern scientific studies have pinpointed a number of health benefits of garlic. There are two main healing compounds of garlic called Alliccin and diallyd sulphide, Garlic has been used s herbal medicine since many years. It has been used by people since long to manage blood pressure and cholesterol level under control. Modern research has indicated that garlic is a strong natural antibiotic. The health benefit of garlic is sustained by the human body for an extended period as opposed to medicinal pills. Aged garlic is also found to be a powerful anti-oxidant and thus can protect the body against free radicals.

Nasturitium--- This has its origins in South America and is a delicious herbal remedy. This herb helps in treating skin conditions, the problems of the urinary tract and the respiratory system. It is also advised in cases of Flu and cold , this herb is a good home remedy for Alopecia or hair loss.

Nettles--- This is a precious herbal remedy for many human conditions. It has many medical properties which includes Pectoral and Astringent. This is also used in cases of high blood pressure, Arthritis and stomach ulcers.

Nutmeg--- It is basically a seed with covering and is used for the treatment of asthma, arthritis, Alzheimer, indigestion and other problems.
